PopMuse off to Comic-Con '08

Pmc3po PopMuse is off to San Diego Comic-Con for work.  Might have time to post there, but probably not, my apologies.   Have a good weekend!

Here's the new Rihanna Video for "Disturbia", seems appropriate for where I'm going.  Very horror, gothic, like a Nine Inch Nails or Marilyn Manson video from the mid 90s - re: LOVE IT!

This chick is really giving you high fashion now, and the kind of choreography Janet has been trying to get right for over a year now.  Go on Rihanna, grab your spot, your earning it with that haircut and those heels for sure!

WEEZER: PORK & BEANS

Weezer is really more Bloghungry's thing than mine, but I really like this video.  And I normally hate gimmicky pop videos that appropriate internet phenomenas as if they are some big joke.  But NOT here.

The moment where Rivers Cuomo hugs Chris Crocker seems sincere on a deep level.  I  think they both need a hug really really bad.  Decide for yourself, I'm feeling generous with my opinions these days.

J. Hud Spotlight

Can we all just collectively agree that Jennifer Hudson is really doing IT with this single?  I mean, really.

As DWH75 said to me: "It's what I wanted to hear for the J Hud Brand -- simple, classy, clean. They were so smart to go light on the production -- her voice is so rich as it is, she don't need no extra topping."

Amen to that.

The video (above) is decent too.  I like the 'at home', 'in alley' and 'on runway' set-up, I could do without the 'Campari' and 'white striped room' set-up.  But it is classic Arista R&B Music Video with 90% beauty shots, and 10% narrative.  No, no, I'm a fan of that, especially when you can make Jennifer look THIS beautiful.  Now that is a shear genius hair cut.

And these remixes...  Just perfect.  2 Mixes, one airy summer fun, one gay pride boom boom.  Done and done.  I hope no one else does mixes of it, these two are fine.

GRAFFITI BRIDGE is on tv... WOW.

Random Thoughts that cross PopMuse's brain while watching Prince's epic bad movie Graffiti Bridge on FUSE:
Why is this on Fuse? I'm so happy this is on TV right now, don't question it.
The Opening Credits promise so much more movie than this is.
Why did Prince rock a 90s Jewish American Princess hair style?
Where is Tevin Campbell tonight?  Hope he is off drugs and rentboys.
For all his spirituality, Prince always was just a Misogynist Pig, albeit a talented one.
What would it have been like if Madonna DID agree to play the part of Aura?
The Glam Slam Nightclub in Miami was a really hot club.
Ingrid Chavez was bad but Jill Jones was worse.
How amazing is Jennifer's Boutique that it not only got me Jill Jones amazing Prince Produced CD, but THE FAMILY too.
Morris Day was amazing in Purple Rain (even though he was on Horse.)
Does Jimmy Jam still get residual checks from this, and does he laugh when he does, for sure his accountant laughs.
I like how they call all females in the film, "Grace" and "Stella".  Thats funny.

"Joy In Repetition" is a completely amazing song.

Vampire Weekend

PopMuse has decided to love Vampire Weekend.  I had earlier decided to hate them because the hype machine pushing them felt unwarranted and what I had heard from them sounded like Paul Simon's "Graceland" (now that is a moment I don't need to return to.)

Spin Then, in one day, I read their SPIN Cover Story and watched them perform on an SNL, and decided, it was time to love them.  Hype machine wins again.

But the real reason I've decided to love them is because I feel like John Hughes would love them.  And not because they look like characters out of Pretty In Pink, but because I feel like their sound is completely born out of his 80s film soundtracks.  Think about it.

Vamp1cd Also, I am completely obsessed with the Font and Design Layout of their CD Booklet.  What? It makes a difference.

Danity Kane "Damaged"

Popfection.  Go ahead and rip from Britney & Spice Girls, it's exactly what you should be doing Danity.  I love a 3 Set-Up music video cut on beat, it's like everything I need.  And man is this my color palette, I love a Bubble Gum aesthetic... Know me.

Also, this track has been turning me out lately.  Song of the season for sure.  Don't sleep on these girls 'cause you have an aversion to MTV and Making The Band, they've transcended with this song and video.

PopMuse @ SXSW '08

Mplw2 Hey Kids, The PopMuse is in Austin Texas working hard (for the day job) at SXSW Music & Film Festival.  I'm not gonna have much time to post while here, but if I can find a free minute, I'll do my best.

There's plenty of amazing NEW media to discuss being at SXSW, but as I was running around Ikea yesterday buying furniture for our TV Interview Set, (completely unable to find a sales person, like, ANYWHERE) this OLD song came on the Ikea sound system and pretty much floored me.  Thought I would share...

Hot Chip: Ready For The Fall

This video did it.  I'm officially on board with Hot Chip now.  I've never thought that much of them, but with this clip, we're good.  Plus I'm a sucker for a Color Bars art reference, I'm easy like that.  And don't get me started on a Batman / Joker / Prince make-up moment.  WATCH above or iphone here.

Here's a remix of theirs I enjoy too..

Janet Parodies MTV Shows (5 Promos)

It is so nice to see Janet expose her sense of humor instead of her sexual kinks.  PopMuse is still very disturbed by what he heard in that song "Discipline" on her new CD.  I'm just not one for Incest Fantasy Ballads, call me a prude, but if I'm gonna have to hear about Daddy Rape, I'd rather hear it on Oprah, not on R&B instrumentation.  Just kidding, whatever gets you off, I guess.  But I'll be listening to the jams linked below instead.  I digress...

These new MTV Promos are amazing.  I heard they were directed by Joel Schumacher, which is hilarious, because the production value is so low, yet it's probably his best work.  She does a good Diddy impression too.  WATCH ABOVE or iphone it HERE.

Tina Fey is always right.

Tina Fey hosted SNL this past week and she did a funny News rant on Voters and Hillary which ended in her saying "Bitch Is The New Black."  Watch above.  Now it's turned into a whole News Story.  And I say "Fear The Power of The Fey".

Another highlight was T. Fey's take on Daisy from VH1's Rock Of Love.  Watch Below.
