Could I be more excited for a film? These posters are all over L.A., and I live for them all. Tyler Perry is just a big messy girl, and I love every damn movie he makes. What? Have you seen "The Family That Preys"? OK then.

OK, I'm leaving Sundance today. It's been a lot of work, but also a lot of fun (always feels fun when you are looking in the rear view mirror, right?) Here's some celeb thoughts...
Celebs: Paris Hilton (exactly as you'd imagine her - gross), Kim Kardashian (same thing), Cuba Gooding Jr. (desperate to be recognized), Tom Arnold (probably on Drugs, running down Main Street with arms full of swag), Andie MacDowell (very beautiful), Ralph Maachio (remember from the Karate Kid - he was drunk at 4 in the afternoon), Jude Law (in a huge man-scarf - he is TOO British), Virginia Madsen (too made up to be a Sundance Juror - IMO), Sam Rockwell (had to wake him from napping on a couch to get him to do the interview, also saw him eating alone, clearly he isn't into all this).
Mike Tyson (whatever he is, he has "it"), Brittany Snow (is pretty), one of the Cheetah Girls (the one that did the nudes that landed her a job on MTV), Adam Scott (because of his scenes in Step Brothers, I wanted to shake his hand more than once). Ewan McGregor (it's the eyes) and Jim Carrey are lovers in "I love you Philip Morris" and as much as I hate the Jim Carrey (he is charming.) Nia Long should work more. John Krasinski (gives great soundbite, but it ends there).
I witnessed a big run in with Chris Rock and Bobcat Goldthwait. Where Chris Rock showed his true colors and they were mean, braggadocios, condescending, and really NOT funny. Sorry fans of the C. Rock. In this job, once in a while you get to see celebrities as they are in private, and it's shocking, it was a moment like that. Someday I'll tell you the story, too long for the blog.

The whole shoot, every time something went wrong and in Production they often do, me and crew would quietly hum this to each other to make us laugh. It worked -- every time.
PopMuse is up at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah. This would be my 8th consecutive year here at Sundance. There are moments, like during the pre-screening montages where they show films from past Sundances, that I feel really proud to have been present for all those premieres. Then there are moments when I worry I've been stuck in arrrested developement (or maybe that's just because everywhere you turn George Michael and Maebe are standing next to you).
Speaking of Michael Cera, I did see his real life girlfriend's film "Paper Heart". It's a really sweet movie about Love, trying to find it, finding it, having documentary cameras ruin it and then learning that real life is better than filmed life. It's such a small movie, but it's really important in a world where we are all so traceable, public, on camera, on facebook, on reality TV. Kinda loved it actually.
Also saw this brilliant doc called "Big River Man" about an old drunk Slavic Endurance Swimmer, who swims through the amazon (just for kicks). Needless to say he goes nuts, gets incredibly sick, has Jesus complex , and has an adorable (not pictured here) son/manager named Borat (for real) who narrates. It's a true story. For his interview we made him strip down to Speedo and get in a Jacuzzi with a bottle of win, as we do. (Pic to the left.)
Then I saw "Big Fan" a film directed and written by the screenwriter of "The Wrestler" (which I hated). But "Big Fan" is Patton Oswalt playing a (pathetic) fanatical Giants Fan. Basically, you know the guys cheering in the crowd of The Wrestler? He made a movie about their depressing lives. I love a psycho fan, lord knows I've dated enough Mariah-Lambs, so I liked it, but no love there.
I know all you PopMuse Readers really want to hear is celebrity gossip, so I'll try and have that for you later in the week...

It took someone saying they were reminded of me when watching The Wackness to get me to actually watch The Wackness (self-centered much?) I had experienced the cast interviews back at Sundance '08 and thought that was enough Wackness for me. Then they sprayed out that lame Hip-Hop marketing campaign and I was totally turned off.
The Wackness is so much more than a movie about hip-hop; it's a movie about first love, being high in NYC in 1994 (such a good time to be high in NYC), graduating from your Parents, being lost, looking for mentors in all the wrong places, mixtapes, lots of deep shit. Instead of selling it as the fresh coming-of-age indie that it was, they went for hip-hop, tagging, and hip-hop (mistake).
Anyway, it's out on DVD, I loved it, and I definitely did see myself (and us) in it. I'd share some of my favorite tracks from the Soundtrack, but I wasn't all that impressed with the soundtrack. Instead I'll share with you the music I was reminded of when watching that film and it was some great DJ mixes from Super-Blogger FourFour.

PopMuse and Bloghugry try our best to live a clutter-free life, if for no other reason than to feel superior to the people on "CLEAN HOUSE". But this means throwing out many amazing Pop Culture items PopMuse has laboriously saved over the years. This can be very painful for the PopMuse.
Now I know with the internet you can pretty much find anything you can remember, but there is something about holding the actual artifact in your hands (the same hands that held it years ago) that makes it tough to destroy.
Yet, in the trash it goes, mostly. Then there are items like this Interview Magazine from 1997, which will go in a bankers box along with other classic mags that have survived many Spring Cleanings.
This issue came out before Good Will Hunting was even released, (as there are ads for the movie on accompanying pages) which would explain how Bruce Weber got the fellas to do these ridiculous poses. So good. So Young!
...I think I just came up with a new Tag like for PopMuse: "Pop Culture is my Porn." Whatdayathink?
So good. So mean. So surprising. So Yes. Someone forced me to see it and I'm very happy they did. So allow me to force YOU, I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

Yes I saw The Dark Knight this past weekend, and really, eh. If I had to hear one more monologue "The hero you want isn't always the Hero you get. I'll be the Hero Gotham needs even if it's the Hero they don't know they want or need..." And on and on, from EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, we get it, we-get-it!
And Morgan Freeman, what the hell do we need him for, back to Bucket List babe, I'm tired of you popping up in every Hollywood Movie as the voice of reason (re: God).
But I've grown to LOVE the Batman Promo Poster that says, "Why So Serious?" because clearly that was a marketing exec thinking exactly what I was thinking, "why SOOOO serious?" I mean, can we have a moment of levity, no it's 3 hours long, I want 2 moments of levity.
Heath Ledger's performance was great (he was really the only thing in the movie) but it was no Jack Nicholson. Be scary, be sick, be demented, but don't be so damned depressing! You're already dead, that's a bummer enough.
And what was up with Christian Bale's Batman-as-a-20-year-smoker voice, was that in the first one? Hated it. We laughed every time he did it. So I guess that was levity, unintentional though.
I'm going to Comic-Con in 2 days for work and this Post will probably get me killed, so if you never hear from PopMuse again, it was fun being the Hero you needed, even if it wasn't the Hero you wanted.
