Boom Boom Blog 1-31-09

Time for some Boom Boom Remixes for you Boys and Girls (gurls?).  Anyway, slim pickings out there these days, but here's some of the highlights I've d'loaded recently.

Taylor Swift - Love Story (Digital Dog Remix)  I'm not gonna get in to the Taylor Swift Phenom.  I think the talent there is all fabricated by the recording industry.  I'd like to see her sing acapella and/or watch her write one of her songs.  Sorry I just don't buy it.  That said, I know some of you will love this track.

Beyonce - "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" (RedTop Remix) Mixes keep on coming for this one, and I'm still into it.

Michael Woods feat. Inaya Day - "Natural High" (Out Of Office Full Vocal Mix)  I know this lyric is corny, but the track is pretty solid.  It's for serious club fans.

Lily Allen "The Fear" - (StoneBridge Remix Club) StoneBridge - hit or miss for PopMuse, you decide on this one.  I love this lyric so much, I'll take it in any shape it comes.

Jason Mraz - "I'm Yours" (Princess Ann -DTTT I'm Yours- 2009 Reconstruction Tribal  Mix)  Mix feels very homemade to me, but I think it works.  Maybe it's a mess, but Jason will like it.

Britney Spears - "Circus" Mysto & Pizzi Electro Mix  Bjarne said I already posted this one - sorry kids.  But here it is again, in case you missed it.  So far it's the leader for favorite Circus Mix.

Celine Dion vs Maurice Joshua - "I'm Alive" (Vocal)  Some of that great Gospel House from Maurice.  It just works, it's that simple, something about it, I love it. 

Chris Brown "With You" (Tracy Young Remix)  Ya know this was one of my favs from last year and apparently it's having a re-release in Europe, so I thought why not?  I still think it's too minor and needs to be more major chords only in that chorus.  But I do LOVE that "Withayouwithayou withyou. Guuuurl."

And the ever generous and talented Bjarne mixed-up a continuous mp3 mix of these tracks.  It's hot, take a listen.

It's a new beginning children.  No, I'm NOT talking about Obama (enough already).  RuPaul has a new TV Series on LOGO.  It's an America's Next Top Model-ish, (...what? Tyra's whole spiel is stolen from Ru, don't even get PopMuse started...) Drag Modeling Competition show. It starts Monday Feb. 2nd.

It looks like there is some real talent in this batch too.  And I'm loving the glowy soft focus.  Kids, listen to La Muse, you need to tune in and SUPPORT!

Cazwell Saw Beyonce At Burger King REMIX

If you've been wondering who that white boy on the PopMuse Banner is, it's CAZWELL.  I'm going to assume you know all about this Gay Rap Star from his hit single "It's All Over My Face" and many others. 

I've been deeply into his latest (latest?) "I've Seen Beyonce At Burger King" Remix by Matty Heilbronn.  It's a throwback mix (straight outta '93) that reminds me of a De La Soul Remix (from that era) or an MK Remix from '93.  I just wish he dropped a "Do You Even HAVE TEETH?" sample on this mix.  Anyway, you should know it and love it...

Things I realized at 1am on Saturday Night and remembered at noon on Sunday...

1. This song didn't get it's due.  You think it did, but it really didn't and it's because these chicks are too old to be acting like this and singing this song, but if it was the debut single of another (younger) girl group, it would have made a major impact on the pop world.  But last night it had a moment - did you feel it?

2. This girl Selena Gomez is a huge star and a real 'one-to-watch'.  Take note, it's gonna be the 'Vanessa Hudgens is the new J. Lo' moment you were hoping for, but instead you got "Sneaker Night".  (This post should be titled A&R Mistakes).  Check Selena out in the ABC Family Movie "Another Cinderella Story"  all you need to see is the first 15 minutes to know exactly why you should be casting her in everything.  Or just watrch 4 minutes below...

Yes she is on the other side of the mirror. MmmmmmmHmmmmmm!  And yes that is Jane Lynch at the end.  You're welcome.

3. I'm gonna have to post on this song, much as I don't want to, it's bigger than You, PopMuse and the entire internet...  "I'm in L.A. Trick!"

Sundance '09 (Part 2)

OK, I'm leaving Sundance today. It's been a lot of work, but also a lot of fun (always feels fun when you are looking in the rear view mirror, right?)  Here's some celeb thoughts...

Celebs: Paris Hilton (exactly as you'd imagine her - gross), Kim Kardashian (same thing), Cuba Gooding Jr. (desperate to be recognized), Tom Arnold (probably on Drugs, running down Main Street with arms full of swag), Andie MacDowell (very beautiful), Ralph Maachio (remember from the Karate Kid - he was drunk at 4 in the afternoon), Jude Law (in a huge man-scarf - he is TOO British), Virginia Madsen (too made up to be a Sundance Juror - IMO), Sam Rockwell (had to wake him from napping on a couch to get him to do the interview, also saw him eating alone, clearly he isn't into all this). 

Mike Tyson (whatever he is, he has "it"), Brittany Snow (is pretty), one of the Cheetah Girls (the one that did the nudes that landed her a job on MTV), Adam Scott (because of his scenes in Step Brothers, I wanted to shake his hand more than once).   Ewan McGregor (it's the eyes) and Jim Carrey are lovers in  "I love you Philip Morris" and as much as I hate the Jim Carrey (he is charming.)  Nia Long should work more.  John Krasinski (gives great soundbite, but it ends there).

I witnessed a big run in with Chris Rock and Bobcat Goldthwait.  Where Chris Rock showed his true colors and they were mean, braggadocios, condescending, and really NOT funny.  Sorry fans of the C. Rock.  In this job, once in a while you get to see celebrities as they are in private, and it's shocking, it was a moment like that.  Someday I'll tell you the story, too long for the blog.

The whole shoot, every time something went wrong and in Production they often do, me and crew would quietly hum this to each other to make us laugh.  It worked -- every time.

Sundance 09 (Part 1)

PopMuse is up at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah.  This would be my 8th consecutive year here at Sundance.  There are moments, like during the pre-screening montages where they show films from past Sundances, that I feel really proud to have been present for all those premieres.  Then there are moments when I worry I've been stuck in arrrested developement (or maybe that's just because everywhere you turn George Michael and Maebe are standing next to you). 

Speaking of Michael Cera, I did see his real life girlfriend's film "Paper Heart".  It's a really sweet movie about Love, trying to find it, finding it, having documentary cameras ruin it and then learning that real life is better than filmed life.  It's such a small movie, but it's really important in a world where we are all so traceable, public, on camera, on facebook, on reality TV.  Kinda loved it actually.

Also saw this brilliant doc called "Big River Man" about an old drunk Slavic Endurance Swimmer, who swims through the amazon (just for kicks).  Needless to say he goes nuts, gets incredibly sick, has Jesus complex , and has an adorable (not pictured here) son/manager named Borat (for real) who narrates.  It's a true story.  For his interview we made him strip down to Speedo and get in a Jacuzzi with a bottle of win, as we do. (Pic to the left.)

Then I saw "Big Fan" a film directed and written by the screenwriter of "The Wrestler" (which I hated).  But "Big Fan" is Patton Oswalt playing a (pathetic) fanatical Giants Fan.  Basically, you know the guys cheering in the crowd of The Wrestler?  He made a movie about their depressing lives.  I love a psycho fan, lord knows I've dated enough Mariah-Lambs, so I liked it, but no love there.

I know all you PopMuse Readers really want to hear is celebrity gossip, so I'll try and have that for you later in the week...

I Miss the Snow

I have watched this little video from Josh & Josh's Blog like 10 times in a row.  I really miss the snow.  Like, a lot.  It could be because it's super hot in LA again, which I should jump up and down about, but really, I like a little chill every now and then, I get enough 80degrees the rest of the year.  Can you be jaded about weather?

Alas, I'm off to the Sundance Film Festival where there will be plenty of snow and cold - HOORAY!   If I don't get a chance to blog for a while it's because I'm working, sorry.  But I'll do my best to bring you any nuggets of fun from the fest if I can.

LaBelle - Super Lover (Lost Daze Electro Mix) I'm not gonna lie, I expect a lot more from a LaBelle mix, but this is a good start.  Let's really focus on vocals next single's remixes - OK?

SpekrFreks w/ Belinda Carlisle - Heaven (SpekrFreks Mix)   Berkley Boys Spekrfreks, sent this gem directly to PopMuse.  I get sent so much music, but this one really stood out (AND I'm not even a big fan of the original, so that's saying something!)

Jennifer Carbonell - Broken Pieces (Friscia & Lamboy Radio Edit)  Surprise selection, that blew my mind.  Tech House Builder.

Britney Spears - Circus (Edson Pride Illusionist Mix)  You want it, so here you go.  I'm here to serve.  This single is not having nearly the impact it was supposed to. (Worried)

Mariah Carey I Stay In Love (Jody den Broeder)  Y'all should know I love Jody dB by now.  And MC just remixes up so perfectly.  When she hits the famous final notes of any MC song, ya know she'll soar and as expected, she does.

Ryan Ferrada - Dirty In The Club (Bimbo Jones Radio Mix)  I don't know, I guess the lyric is kinda silly.  But Bimbo Jones is pretty reliable.

Beyonce - If I Were a Boy (Mark Picchiotti Club)  I am finally into this mix.  I didn't think I would be, but then I kinda gave into the disconnect of lyrics vs. happy house sound.  It has a joyful-90s feel actually. 

Taio Cruz - Come on Girl (Wideboys Club Mix)  Verses and Pre-Chorus' are FLAWLESS, the chorus - meh.  Still will have you working at the gym for sure.

Kanye West - Love Lockdown (John Debo Mix) This song ain't my fav, but if you are a fan of it and you've been looking for a proper Boom Boom Remix, this is probably the closest your gonna get.

BJARNE'S CONTINOUS MIX OF POPMUSE BOOM BOOM 0113 [39mb mp3]  As always, the delightful and very talented Bjarne did a continous mix of these tracks for you kids.  For those that like their mixes all mixed up in one long workout mix, here ya go.  (My Favorite moment is the Taio Cruz break - HOT!  And even though neither of us really love the Kanye - it feels SO right where it is in the mix!)  Bjarne definitley cuts out the fat!  THANKS BJARNE!!!

From The Balcony... I see a Duck in the Backseat

I've been spending a lot of time standing on the balcony of my apartment, waiting.  Waiting for what?  Lots of things really.   That was vague, I don't feel like being specific.  Today I walked out on the balcony and saw this old truck with a large stuffed duck sitting in the backseat.  Seemed like a sign, some message from above - or at least it would have in my 20s.

It's probably just some random lonely near-homeless freak parking on my street while he digs through the trash cans in my neighborhood.  Either way, it inspired me to take a picture, which is something that hasn't happened in a while.
