It was the best of times, it was the worrrrrrr... G-d giveth and G-d taketh awwwwww. The shit storm of life continues... Back on a plane today, this time for a funeral (again). WHAT IS UP WITH THE WORRRRRRLD THESE DAYS. Ready for October to end.

I was asked to post on Vote No On 8 today. I guess a bunch of bloggers are uniting to post on this issue and I'm happy to join in. The truth is, as I drive around LA and see those hideous Yes on 8 posters with children's crayon drawings in front of people's homes (Santa Monica, who knew you were such conservative monsters, I thought you were just lame screenwriters?) it breaks my heart.
Putting a poster like that in front of your house is like labeling yourself a bigot. Can it possibly be that with all that is wrong with the world THIS issue is worthy of committing a hate crime? Because look, as someone who has survived a hate crime (don't ask, this isn't the place) seeing those signs feels very similar to getting kicked in the stomach, I can say that with first hand knowledge.
So, if you live in California, Vote No on 8.
If you live in Arizona, Vote No on Prop 102.
If you live in Florida, Vote No on Prop 2.

Listening:
1. Avoid hearing the lyrics too clearly, definitely avoid thinking about lyrics, they contradict the intended point of the song.
2. Listen clearly to the melody and how strong Beyonce's vocal performance is.
3. Download the official remix, (which I can't believe is official, because lyrically it's even more sexist and incomprehensible.) Hence, I like that version much better.
4. Love the dude's voice singing on that remix. Who is he? He sings well.

Watching:
1. Completely ignore the first 10 seconds of the video, A MUST DO.
2. Watch the whole video, there's more personal truth in there than in the song.
3. Allow yourself to get sucked up into the Bossip-ness of it all. Being about Jay-Z cheating with Rihanna, and Beyonce being a good stay at home breakfast chef.
4. Enjoy how pretty she is, it's ok, she wants you to.
Well that's just about the best 7 minutes I'll ever experience.

LaBelle have a New CD out, and I've only sampled it on itunes, but haven't bought. Anyone want to share? Sounds good though, it does.
But I'm ALL about this old clip of theirs DWH75 sent me. It's so major. In the past I always thought LaBelle stood out because they were 3 amazing voices (and the costumes kinda got in the way.) But watching this clip I see that the theatrics were an essential component in their live performance. Patti's on stage craziness really is from outer space, why shouldn't she wear a Space Suit? And who knew Nona Hendryx wrote the songs?

UPDATE 10/25: Got the new CD. Is OK, feels like a Patti CD, want more Nona. I'm gonna stick with this old song from the youtube clip above. It took work but I found an mp3 of it on OSN (One Soulful Negro) Blog. And read on Wikipedia that the song was about: ... the way the ladies felt when people who had "made it" in the business no longer were interested in keeping in contact with Patti, Sarah, or Nona.

Here's the latest PopMuse Mix. Yes, it has a pretentious title, but it suites the mix perfectly. It's not a Pop Mix, more of a Journal Entry Mix. What’s special about it is it was made at the beginning of October, so it is the first part of a story (in the eye of the first storm) and if you’ve been paying attention you already know the second part (the quiet or 10-18-08.) So if you listen, you get a glimpse into the madness which led up to all that.
Without a doubt, this Fall has been the most trying period of my life (and that seems to be the same for many of you.) This mix is indicative of that spiralling many of us do. It is brutally honest, naked, raw, REAL. It’s heavy on emotion, so if you’re just looking for Boom Boom, it's there, but barely.

We've been engaged for months, but life has gotten in the way of planning an actual wedding, (actually we never really planned to have a big wedding, but...) Rings were selected, sized and purchased, but still no official plan. And with the impending November 4th Vote in CA to abolish Marriage Equality from the state, we decided now was the time.
So off we went… We got our Marriage License on Thursday Afternoon but needed an Officiant to seal the deal. Civil Ceremonies were booked through the Election, but the guy running the License Desk suggested this small Hollywood Wedding Chapel, where they were marrying Gay Couples and assisting with the paperwork (on the quick.)
Last night we sealed the deal, in a little room with an Officiant named Lorelei (a significant name for us.) We exchanged vows and rings, in a simple 8 minute ceremony. Then, we were Married.
We came back to our place for Champagne and Homemade Desserts (by Bloghungry of course.) It was a super casual, stress free night that felt perfectly suited to us as a couple.
So there it is... Married. Legally.

Last weekend Bloghungry and I were in Nashville for a Wedding of one of his best girlfriends. Bloghungry made a Cupcake Tower for the wedding. I was a proud part of Team Cupcake, along with the Nilblogs. Big thanks to the many guests at the wedding that helped Team Cupcake, it took a village. What? You try making 200 cupcakes in a Hotel Room!
The wedding was beautiful. Lauren & Toby were an adorable Bride & Groom. Was great to meet Baby Jane, see new parents Megan & Claus, see the sweet and self-less Brigid, and get to know Musicbath, the Geocache King (and MVP of the wedding - mainly because he worked Flavor Flav into his toast - major!)
And then of course there was Lauren's Folks, who were so great. And Ira - the Father of the Bride who provided the most beautiful, emotional, and REAL Father / Daughter Dance I have ever seen or ever will see. They danced to a Billy Joel song called "Lullaby" (d'load below). Was a very emotional moment at a super fun wedding. My only regret is I have so few pictures of anything but Cupcakes!!! Argh.

I love this show. I was late to the table on this one, only starting this season, but damn is it a stylish show. And my favorite performance isn't Don Draper or Betty Draper (although both are great) it's Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson. She brings a David Lynch crazy to the show which is so maudlin and understated.
I think the season is ending soon, but tune in if you haven't seen it, it's irresistably good.
I don't know how I missed THIS detail of the J. Hud engagement news story. But she is getting married to VH1's "I Love New York" toss-off PUNK. OK, really? She found love in the New York throw-away pool? Seriously?
I thought she was Miss 'I've been with the same man since high school.' A man who was with her through Am Idol, the silence after Am Idol, the rise again, the Oscar. And then she ends up engaged to PUNK? Oh hell NO!
I've been trying to figure out why I hate her new CD so much, and I thought it was because it feels so completely NOT-her to me.
With all those promises she made about it being sooooo different from the other current R&B Projects, saying, 'My CD will NOT be your typical contemporary R&B.' Ummm, you have T-Pain on your CD, you have Auto-Tune, a Luda Rap, some bullshit 'boy is mine' duet with Fantasia, the pre-req Timbaland nonsense, Missy, Ne-Yo, sounds pretty typical contemporary R&B to me. BUT...
But now I have someone to blame... PUNK! Because I really don't want to blame her. I LOVE J. Hud. So I'm putting this mess on PUNK, bitches. Aaaaaaaand, exhale.
