Fantasia is taking over the lead in the Broadway Musical, The Color Purple. She went of Oprah to announcement it and perform a song from the show. I'm not big on Musicals, but this has potential. Watch the performance above. Fantie torn it up, she even cries (now who's gunning for a Tony?) And you know what, I bought it, the tears, the whole performance, when Fantie sings about rising from the gutter, I buy it...
Fantasia told Winfrey she can relate to Celie, because "she went through so many things. She had people telling her she wasn't this, she wasn't that, she was ugly. But she still kept the faith, and she still kept her smile on her face. And at the end, she said, 'You know what? I may be poor. I may be ugly. But I'm here.'"
I'm not ashamed to admit that her performance of "I'm Here" made me cry. You could feel the raw emotion pouring out of Fantasia. Just amazing.

She's not eligible for a TONY award. LaChanze won the best actress statue for it last year...and since this isn't a revival and there aren't currently awards for replacements, Fantie can't get it.

Let me predict that a bloated, blackfaced John Travolta will play Shug in the movie adaptation of the musical.

Better than J Hud's Oscar stylings.
'Tasia is real through and through.
Speaking of women's pictures... where's that sequel to her MEGA-hit (well, by Lifetime's standards) TV movie?
